A 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward, King was traded to the Utah Jazz in 1979, but missed most of the season with a severe knee injury and was sent to the Golden State Warriors. King was named Comeback Player of the Year after averaging 21.9 points a game in 1980-81. Golden State traded him to the New York Knicks in 1982. King suffered yet another serious knee injury in 1985, but worked his way back into form by the time he joined the Washington Bullets in 1987.
